Holoportation

Posted by admin on March 26, 2016 in Uncategorized |

Microsoft Research‘s Interactive 3D Technologies team has announced holoporation.

Interactive 3D technologies (I3D) combines research on 3D graphics, computer vision, machine learning, novel hardware, augmented reality and NUI. Their remit is to demonstrate radically new user experiences built using state-of-the-art vision and graphics algorithms, and novel sensing or display hardware. Their projects mix theory and practice, meaning they research new algorithms and techniques, but also build complex systems, and demonstrate their results practically.

holoportation is a new type of 3D capture technology that allows high-quality 3D models of people to be reconstructed, compressed and transmitted anywhere in the world in real time. When combined with mixed reality displays such as HoloLens, this technology allows users to see, hear, and interact with remote participants in 3D as if they are actually present in the same physical space. Communicating and interacting with remote users becomes as natural as face-to-face communication.

Microsoft HoloLens is the first fully untethered, holographic computer, enabling you to interact with high‑definition holograms in your world. The first wave of developer edition will ship from March 30th, 2016.

See the demo during Microsoft Build 2015 developer conference.

Lee Kuan Yew

Posted by admin on March 22, 2015 in Uncategorized |

Lee Kuan Yew is no more. He was a very dedicated and determined leader who’s life mission was to transform Singapore from riot ridden third world island  into a world class city state. He has more than achieved it.

May his soul rest in peace. May his life be an inspiration to all.

BBC says

With a sense of vision and a ruthless pragmatism, Lee Kuan Yew led Singapore as it transformed from a tiny island with no natural resources into a thriving economic success.

The Hindu says

Lee Kuan Yew, a towering figure in post-colonial Asia, oversaw tiny Singapore’s transformation from British tropical outpost to an affluent, global city in just over a generation, setting the example for developing economies from China to Dubai.

The Strait Times says

Singapore’s founding father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, has died, leaving behind the unlikely nation that he and his colleagues fostered and built over five decades as his lasting legacy.

Economist says

ONE of the world’s great economic success stories, Singapore owes much of its prosperity to a record of honest and pragmatic government, the legacy of Lee Kuan Yew

Lee Kuan Yew said

I’m very determined. If I decide that something is worth doing, then I’ll put my heart and soul to it. The whole ground can be against me, but if I know it is right, I’ll do it. That’s the business of a leader.

Indian PM NarendraModi says

A far-sighted statesman & a lion among leaders, Mr Lee Kuan Yew’s life teaches valuable lessons to everyone.

UK PM David Cameron says

Lee Kuan Yew personally shaped Singapore in a way that few people have any nation. That Singapore is today a prosperous, secure and successful country is a monument to his decades of remarkable public service.

Lady Thatcher once said that there was no Prime Minister she admired more than Mr Lee for ‘the strength of his convictions, the clarity of his views, the directness of his speech and his vision of the way ahead’. His place in history is assured, as a leader and as one of the modern world’s foremost statesmen.

BRICS – New World Order

Posted by admin on March 25, 2013 in Uncategorized |

BRICS stand for Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa.

The acronym BRIC was coined by Jim O’Neill in a 2001 paper entitled “Building Better Global Economic BRICs”. The acronym has come into widespread use as a symbol of the shift in global economic power away from the developed G7 economies towards the developing world. It is estimated that BRIC economies will overtake G7 economies by 2027.

Jim O’Neill is a British Economist who became Chairman of Goldman Sachs’s Division of Asset Management in 2010.

As of 2013, the five BRICS countries represent almost 3 billion people, with a combined nominal GDP of US$14.9 trillion, and an estimated US$4.5 trillion in combined foreign reserves. Together the BRICS account for 25% of global GDP and 40% of the world’s population.

In 2010, South Africa began efforts to join the BRIC grouping, and the process for its formal admission began in August of that year. South Africa officially became a member nation on December 24, 2010, after being formally invited by the BRIC countries to join the group. The group was renamed BRICS.

Dr.APJ Kalam ignites young minds at Children’s Science Congress

Posted by admin on January 5, 2013 in Uncategorized |

Eminent Scientist, aerospace engineer & 11th President of India, Dr. APJ Kalam, inaugurated the Children’s Science Congress on 04-JAN-2013 held in conjunction with the 100th Indian Science Congress at the SN Bose National Centre for Basic Science , Kolkatta

Times of India reported – For the next hour and a half, he held centrestage, triggering adulation bordering on hysteria. Kids and adults were equally mesmerised. Designed to accommodate 3,000 delegates, the tent was bursting at the seams as thrice the capacity packed into the makeshift hall for a glimpse of the icon who sports silver locks and utters “golden words”.

Kalam made young minds say

Knowledge makes you great. Dreams transfer into thoughts. Thoughts result into action.

Kalam spoke into the microphone and a chorus of 10,000 voices followed suit in perfect synchronization.

Knowledge = Creativity + Righteousness in the Heart + Courage.

Bioengineers build artificial jellyfish using silicone and rat’s heart muscle cells

Posted by admin on July 23, 2012 in Uncategorized |

Using recent advances in marine biomechanics, materials science, and tissue engineering, a team of researchers at Harvard University and the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) have turned inanimate silicone and living cardiac muscle cells into a freely swimming “jellyfish.”

The finding serves as a proof of concept for reverse engineering a variety of muscular organs and simple life forms. It also suggests a broader definition of what counts as synthetic life in an emerging field that has primarily focused on replicating life’s building blocks.

The researchers’ method for building the tissue-engineered jellyfish, dubbed “Medusoid,” was published “A tissue-engineered jellyfish with biomimetic propulsion” in a Nature Biotechnology paper on July 22. The news is also published in Nature Science Journal

An expert in cell- and tissue-powered actuators, coauthor Kevin Kit Parker has previously demonstrated bioengineered constructs that can grip, pump, and even walk. The inspiration to raise the bar and mimic a jellyfish came out of his own frustration with the state of the cardiac field.

To build the Medusoid, Parker collaborated with Janna Nawroth, a doctoral student in biology at Caltech and lead author of the study, who performed the work as a visiting researcher in Parker’s lab. They also worked with Nawroth’s adviser, John Dabiri, a professor of aeronautics and bioengineering at Caltech, who is an expert in biological propulsion.

Along with Parker, Nawroth, and Dabiri, contributors to the study included Hyungsuk Lee, Adam W. Feinberg, Crystal M. Ripplinger, Megan L. McCain, and Anna Grosberg, all at Harvard.
